Seasons Roll On By…

Autumn is here, the weather and the world have proclaimed it.

This is my favorite season by far. Pleasant days and long cool nights. It is also the time when my wanderlust, ever present, becomes a vast and struggling thing inside me.

My trek West, so long delayed and set back, will finally begin with a trip East. On October 3rd I leave for Kingsport TN where I will spend the winter and most of the spring. There are several reasons for this beyond the basic fact that my nomadism must be sated:

Work around here has dried up, and both my research and first hand reports assure me that Kingsport is a’hoppin’ in that regard.

I’ve been through the town many times, including overnights and weekends, and it has a comfortable vibe to it. I have always felt welcome and at home there. I’m a gut-instinct type of person, and Kingsport sits right with the ol’ gut.

I dislike big cities, but need to live somewhere that I can find work in walking or biking distance. Kingsport fits the bill. It also has really cheap public transport if worse comes to worse and I break a leg or something.

I have several friends and relatives in the area.

The library is nice.

About 80% of the city has free broadband Wifi available. Woohoo!

My homeplace in E. KY is a mere 80 miles away, as is a certain beautiful young lady I still think about daily. :)

In addition to fitting the criteria above, Kingsport — a very small city — is right smack dab in the mountains where I was born and that still feel like Home.

Though it’s small, it’s part of the Tri Cities with Johnson City and Bristol. Together, they’re pretty sizey.

So. Don’t gotelling me my out of the blue instinctual decisions aren’t logical and sound!
